OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys came ever so close to winning another game when they hosted the Grande Prairie Storm Feb. 7 at the Sportsplex.
In the end though, they had to settle for a 4-3 overtime loss.
The result moved the Grizzlys’ record to 10-33-3-3 for 26 points in 49 games.
The Grizzlys opened the scoring, as has often been the case lately.
Braxton Thornton potted his sixth goal of the season at 4:21 of the first period, assisted by Mitchell Patrick and Gaige Giblin.
Unfortunately, the Storm came back to tie it 1-1 just before the end of that period at 19:05.
The Grizzlys had a strong second period, scoring twice in that frame.
Nolan Viesner scored his eighth goal of the season unassisted at 3:59.
Then at 9:08, Adam Pinsent got his first goal of the season, assisted by Connor Seeley, putting the Grizzlys up 3-1.
However, the Storm scored three unanswered goals to get the win.
They scored a power play goal at 13:37 of the second period and the lone goal of the third period at 16:37 to knot the score at 3-3.
That set up overtime.
The Storm got the game winner at 3:20 of the extra frame.
Thomas Samborski went the distance in net, stopping 31 of 35 shots directed his way. The Grizzlys fired 33 shots at Storm goaltender Nicholas Jones. Fifteen of those shots came in the second period and 10 in the third.
The Grizzlys were zero for one on the power play. The Storm went one for four.
Next up for the Grizzlys is a road game Saturday, Feb.10 against the Dragons in Drumheller.
