OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys added two players on Wednesday to their lineup.
That announcement was made Jan. 8, the same day the club announced that 19 year-old defenceman Quinn Abbott left the Grizzlys to join a team in Langley, B.C.
Abbott is the third player to have left the team for the BCHL in several weeks.
Abbott had just scored his first goal of the 2024-25 Alberta Junior Hockey league season Jan. 7 and had collected a total of 14 points in 32 games.
Earlier, Antonio Bevacqua, who played in the BCHL last season, joined a team in Salmon Arm and Mitch Patrick joined a team in Naniamo.
After announcing Abbott’s departure, Grizzlys business manager Kevin Watson announced that the club has obtained free agent defenceman Brett Schrock.
The Drumheller native had previously played in La Ronge in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and Dryden of the Superior International Junior Hockey League.
Schrock, 18, played four games in La Ronge, during which he racked up 21 penalty minutes and nine games in Dryden, during which he collected two assists.
The Grizzlys obtained 19-year-old forward Johnny Maruna from the Grande Prairie Storm in exchange for future considerations.
The Ohio native had one assist during 15 games with the Storm.
