Olds Grizzlys prepare for a tough opponent

The Grizzlys face off at home against the Okotoks Oilers this Saturday as regular season play begins

OLDS — Twice, the Olds Grizzlys came within a goal of beating the Grande Prairie Storm during back-to-back games at the Sportsplex this past weekend. 

On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Storm edged the Grizzlys 5-4 in a matinee game. 

It was even closer the night before. 

In that game, the Storm edged the Grizzlys 4-3 in overtime. 

In contrast, the Grizzlys have been in tough against the Okotoks Oilers. 

The Oilers doubled up on the Grizzlys 8-4 Nov. 3 in in Okotoks. 

On Halloween night, they handed the Grizzlys a 5-2 decision in Olds and on Friday, Oct. 30, they downed the Grizzlys  4-2 in Okotoks. 

As of Monday, Nov. 9, in exhibition play, the Grizzlys stood in sixth place in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL)’s Viterra South Division with four wins and six losses and one overtime loss for nine points in 11 games.  

They were just one point behind the Oilers, Camrose Kodiaks and Drumheller Dragons, all of which were tied with 10 points each. The Grizzlys were just two points back of the second-place Calgary Canucks who had 11 points. 

This Saturday, Nov. 14, the Grizzlys have an opportunity to exact revenge on the Oilers when they host them at the Sportsplex. Game time is 7 p.m. 

The Alberta Junior Hockey League begins its regular season that same weekend.
