OLDS —  The Olds Grizzlys got a huge win Tuesday night, Jan. 21 when the team edged the visiting Camrose Kodiaks 3-2 in a shootout.

Newcomer Keeghan Dunn was the hero, scoring all three Grizzlys goals, including one in the shootout.

Dunn joined the team a couple of weeks ago from the BCHL’s Vernon Vipers.

There was no scoring in the first period.

Dunn scored his first goal and first as a Grizzly at 19:26 of the first period on a penalty shot.

He scored his second goal at 2:26 of the third period, assisted by another newcomer, Brett Schrock, and Jonathan Doucette.

The Kodiaks got two goals to tie it at 10:22 and 13:22.

That set up overtime, but neither team scored during that period, resulting in the shootout.

Grizzlys Quinn Metzger and Nolan Viesner were sent out but were unable to fool Kodiaks goaltender Carter Capton.

Three Kodiaks were unable to beat Grizzlys goaltender Connor Johnson, including Junshi Hideshima, who was traded to Camrose on Jan. 10 for defenceman Jack Bouck and future considerations.

That set the stage for Dunn’s heroics.

Johnson stopped 53 of 55 shots he faced. The Grizzlys fired 36 shots at Capton.

The Grizzlys were zero for six on the powerplay, the Kodiaks zero for three.
