OLDS — Liam Hartt and Devyn Rice were named senior male and female athletes of the year; also, Nathaniel Reist and Lily Van Ginhoven were chosen junior male and female athletes of the year during the annual École Olds High School (ÉOHS) athletics award breakfast.
The event, held June 21, attracted about 100 people, including athletes, coaches and family members.
Thirty-nine individual awards were handed out across all sports in the school.
“We had an amazing turnout,” ÉOHS athletic director Jeff Clattenburg wrote in an email.
In his email, Clattenburg expressed gratitude for the “hours and hours of volunteer time” that coaches spent working with the various Spartan athletic teams.
He also gave a shoutout to the student athletes for their efforts, noting they “balanced the commitment and responsibilities that come with the demands of both academic and athletic calendars.”
Clattenburg also expressed thanks for local businesses that sponsored awards.
