OLDS — The École Olds High School junior varisty girls volleyball team is headed to the finals, head coach Stephanie Crofts says.
Crofts says the team punched their ticket to the final by beating Cremona 25-14 and 25-20 during playoffs Oct. 24 in Olds.
She said it looks like Olds will be hosting the finals Nov. 7.
Crofts said "moving their feet and communication” was a key factor in the team’s success during the Cremona match.
She said another key was keeping motivated and maintaining high energy.
In the leadup to the finals, the JV girls were slated to play a tournament in Canmore during the Oct. 28 weekend, another tournament in Lacombe this weekend.
Then come zones Nov. 17 in Strathmore.
In mid-October, the JV girls were a last-minute fill-in for the senior girls and senior boys home tournament.
Crofts says that was great experience for them.
“The senior tournament was more exposure for the team as to what is expected out of them skill-wise when they try out for the senior team,” she wrote in an email. “It was a learning experience.”
