OLDS — The Olds Minor Baseball Association’s (OMBA) 2022 season is underway.

One of the association’s U13 AA teams hosted a tiering weekend May 7-8 at Rotary Athletic Park.

Its U13AAA team is getting ready to host their own tiering weekends. They’ll take place at Rotary Athletic Park May 28-29 and June 25-26.

The OMBA will be hosting a U11 and U15 tournament in late June, utilizing diamonds at Rotary Athletic Park and OR Hedges Park.

Community teams will be hold games on weekday evenings through May and June.

OMBA President Jeff Clattenburg can’t believe how well the association has bounced back after two years of COVID restrictions.

“We are blown away by our registration numbers this season, especially coming off the past couple of years,” Clatteburg wrote in an email.

“The Chinook League, which services our community registrations, has been cancelled each of the last two years, so we are extremely excited to see programming back in full force for these kids.

“We have a little over 250 kids currently registered to play baseball from our grassroots programming (Rally Cap) that includes our four and five-year-olds, all the way up to and including our U18 programming.

“Our competitive stream athletes were able to play a full (albeit delayed) season last year, including provincial tournaments and we look forward to a more normal timeline of events for those athletes."

Rally Cap has 66 athletes across eight teams. Rookie Ball has 35 athletes in four teams. The league features five community teams and eight competitive teams this season.
