OLDS — The École Olds High School senior boys basketball team will get a chance to see just how good they are when they tip off in a tournament in Banff Feb. 8.
As of last week, the Spartans were first in the league with a 5-0 record, including a 74-51 win over Cremona on Wednesday.
“Our boys are outstanding this year. They are committed and working so hard to improve on a daily basis,” head coach Taylor Grenier wrote in an email.
“We have great leadership throughout the group, and players that are not afraid to challenge each other to be better,” he added.
“I couldn't be more proud of this team for how far they have come since I had some of them in Grade 10.”
Grenier said the biggest improvement he’s seen in the team is its defensive play.
“We have size and speed which allows us to play some really solid and aggressive defense,” he wrote.
He said the team has a “really strong group of leaders,” including Liam Hartt, Blair Van Brunschot, Dane Drent and Chance Bullock.
“We have also been incredibly fortunate to have Colin MacDougall who moved from Hanna and has been an immense presence on the inside for us,” he added.
“Everyone on the team has contributed to our success in one way or the other, so I am really grateful and enjoying coaching this group.”
