OLDS — The season is over for the École Olds High School football team.
The Spartans were beaten 49-9 last weekend by the Cardston Cougars in the playoffs.
“The players gave it everything they had but struggled to keep up with the Cougars,” head coach Kent Lorenz wrote in an email.
Despite that loss, Lorenz is proud of what the Spartans accomplished this year.
“We had a fantastic season with a lot of memorable moments to celebrate,” he wrote.
The Spartans will look a lot different next season. Half the team will graduate.
On the plus side, though, that creates room for graduating bantam Bulldogs who just won a provincial championship for the second year in a row.
“We are looking forward to having the Grade 9 players move up and join the Spartans program,” Lorenz wrote.
“We are always encouraging new students to come out and give football a try.”
