OLDS — The Olds Spartans got a huge win at home recently when they hammered Calgary's Crescent Heights Cowboys 43-29.
Head coach Kent Lorenz says a big second half made the difference as the Spartans got major contributions from both sides of the ball.
“Both defence and offence played fantastic,” he wrote in an email.
The defence snagged a couple of takeways, including an interception from Liam Russell and a huge fumble recovered by Anthony Sayers, who ran it in for a touchdown.
Lorenz says that fumble and return “turned the game in favour of the Spartans.”
Noah Worth led the D with 11 tackles.
The offence, led by quarterback Landon Eric, receivers Blair Van Brunschot, Dane Drent and running backs Brock Bratrud and Parker Irving also made crucial plays to ensure the win.
Lorenz was asked when the last time was that the Spartans had a win like that.
“It’s been a while,” he replied.
