OLDS — The École Olds High School Spartans football team will have another opportunity to put what they’ve learned to good use this Friday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Drumheller.
The team is on a high after dominating in its first game of the season Aug. 30, hammering Calgary’s North Trail Nighthawks 39-0 at home at Normie Kwong Park.
“Our game went well against North Trail High School from Calgary,” Spartans head coach Kent Lorenz wrote in an email.
“As a coaching staff we were proud of the performance of all of the players who played their first game of football,” Lorenz wrote.
“With half of our team from last year graduating we have a lot of work to do to fill the void in leadership and experience.
“We believe we are going in the right direction. The players moving up from the Bulldogs bantam team are eager to compete for starting positions, and from watching how they played Friday, the sky’s the limit.
“The veterans have been great with all of the new players and want to continue to improve as well.”
The team is also focused on being more “cohesive” in all three phases of the game: offence, defence and special teams.
“Some more hard work is needed in order to continue to improve,” Lorenz wrote.
