Olds resident Graeme Gordon won nine medals, including four gold during the Canadian Masters Swimming Championship, held in Calgary May 19-21.

Swimming in the 35-39 year-old age group, Gordon won gold in the 1,500-metre freestyle race, the 100-119 male 200 freestyle relay, 100-119 male 200 individual medley (IM) relay (backstroke) and 160-199 mixed 400 IM relay (butterfly).

He won silver in the 100 IM, 200 backstroke and 400 IM.

Gordon obtained a bronze medal in the 50 backstroke and the 100 backstroke.

He finished fourth in the 200 IM

he's now won 15 national chalmpionship titles.

Gordon was asked if the Calgary meet was his best ever.

"I've been faster," he said. "In my age group, I'm the oldest now, being 39 in the 35 to 39 age group. So it was a little bit tougher."

Gordon was especially pleased to win the 1,500-metre freestyle event.

"It's not my main event, so it was a big surprise to be able to get that win on that one," he said. "Typically I do backstroke and I medalled in all three of those backstroke events; just not quite as fast as I have been, but very close."

"It was a great weekend," Gordon said. "Again, (I was) not as fast as what I kind of would have hoped but I've been sick. I broke my finger in September and I was out for about four months. Just completely destroyed my finger and it's been pretty good rehabilitation, but it's just not the same still.

"I'm still swimming kind of right on my game. I know I am going to slow down as I get a little bit older, but I mean, that 1,500 was the best time ever. That is the fastest I've ever been in the 1,500, partially because I never swam it. But I was just blown away (by) how fast that was."
