OLDS — The Olds U11 white and black lacrosse teams each won silver during playoffs in the Sportsplex  the June 14 weekend.

U11-2 (the white team) played the Sylvan Lake Buccaneers in the finals.

The game went to overtime.

“Sylvan snuck one by at (with) 43 seconds left in period 4, taking the gold and Olds taking home silver,” Olds Minor Lacrosse Association president Joe Berreth wrote in an email.

U11-1 (the black team) also played well and ended up winning the bronze medal, beating the Carstairs Chargers 7-2.

“All in all it was a great weekend and lots of action."

The U15s also saw playofff action, but didn't make it into the medal round.

Both U11 teams had a great season, Berreth said.

U11-1 stood in third place and U11-2 wound up in fifth place.

Each team played 12 regular season games and two tournaments during the season.

“Each team had some new players that had never played lacrosse. This is a very fast sport, but an easy sport to catch on to.”

Berreth said as they learn how to play the game, kids make new friends and learn how to work together toward a common goal.

Berreth said lacrosse in Olds has been “growing slowly.”

He said just over 100 kids played the sport this season.
