OLDS — The École Olds High School (ÉOHS) senior girls won their home volleyball tournament and the senior boys finished second in theirs.
The Spartan tournament was held Oct. 18-19 at the CLC gym in Olds.
“It was competitive volleyball all weekend long on both sides of the draw,” ÉOHS athletic director Jeff Clattenburg wrote in an email.
The senior girls ended defeated Canmore 25-23 and 25-20 in their tournament final.
The senior boys lost in the final to finish second but “they pushed a strong Webber Academy team to a third set in the final,” Clattenburg wrote.
Coach Jesse Stoddart says in the end, the Spartan girls “beat a very strong Canmore team.”
“We played very well and continue to learn each and every day,” he wrote in an email. “The girls play Cremona this week and hope to continue our recent successes.”
Stoddart said every week, the team works on being aggressive, both at the service line and attack.
“Focusing on first contact as well will help us succeed,” he wrote.
“Our goal is to be a tough opponent who can outwork the opposition.”
The Albertan reached out for senior boys’ coach Kryslyn Gaboury for comment but did not receive a reply by press time.
