OLDS — Ryder Persson of Olds won gold in U17 singles and a silver in U17 mixed doubles during an Alberta Series Junior badminton tournament in Okotoks recently.

Persson won gold in U17 boys singles, which had 60 entries, and silver in U17 mixed doubles, which had 40 entries.

“It was a difficult road to the finals with very even matches. He had three matches that went three sets, barely pulling out the win to move on to the next round,” Persson’s mother, Mary Marshall, wrote in an email.

Persson’s partner in mixed doubles was Krya Aikenhead of Calgary’s Glencoe Club.
