Sixteen-year-old Haylin Eling placed second in both shotput and hammer throw during the Foote Open Field Provincials, held June 28-30 in Edmonton.

In both cases, the Olds Velites Track Club athlete finished behind Jinaye Shomachuk of the Airdrie Aces, who seemed to dominate all the girls under-18 throwing categories that weekend.

In the under-18 girls' three kilogram (kg) shotput competition, Eling's final throw travelled 11.01 metres (m), 1.57 metres short of Shomachuk's final toss, which flew for 12.58 m.

In the under-18 girls' three kg hammer throw, Eling's final toss flew for 36.50 m. Unfortunately, Shomachuk's final throw went almost 20 metres further; 56.37 m in fact.
