OLDS — Holes 12 and 13 at the Olds Golf Club were officially reopened during a ceremony the morning of June 21.

The renovations include a new 12th fairway and green plus an attractive bridge on number 13.

Ceremonies featured a ribbon cutting, introductions of special guests, some ceremonial tee shots and a walk down the fairway.

Plans announced earlier this spring called for hole number 12 to be redone from 150 yards in with a new green, new bunkering, new contouring in the fairways.

Water storage was also increased in water hazards in the area of holes 12 through 14. Two water hazards were joined together.

Keith Newton, Dwayne Becker and Bob Weseen, all long-time members of the Olds Golf Club master plan committee, were among those who celebrated the reopening.

Newton Carole Funkhouser, both of whom have won many club championships over the years, also tested the renovations with couple of drives.

At the time of that announcement, Olds Golf Club Pro Wade Bearchell estimated the total cost of those renovations to be in the $250,000 to $300,000 range.

In an email, Bearchell said the improvements were just the latest in the club’s master plan, created back in 2006.

Over those 16 years, improvements undertaken have included:

  •  enlarging dugout and ponds,

  • updating the irrigation system,

  • extra and re-done tee boxes on every hole,

  • new green side bunkers,

  • new greens on holes 3,6,7,8,12,

  • Revamped fairways on holes 2 and 17.

“The master plan committee, the board, and the management and staff are proud to provide you, the members, with the best golf course, second to none,” Bearchell wrote.
