The Olds High School Spartans defeated their counterparts from Innisfail 6-2 on Thursday during Central Alberta High School Soccer League action.
The Spartans had many scoring opportunities throughout the game putting the Cyclones on the defensive for much of it. When the Cyclones did get scoring opportunities, Bernd Van't Klooster came up with the answer in nets for the Spartans.
Erin Baker, co-coach for the team, said the boys played well defensively, with more work needed on the offensive strike.
“It's improving every game as the boys are playing more, practising, the chemistry is starting to develop and they're setting those plays up for each other,” she said.
Chase Grenier paced the Spartans' attack with three goals, while Mike Price, Alex Kitchen and Eric Simpson added singles for the team, which now sports a record of 2-0-1.
A third of the way through the season, Baker said the team is looking good, with an undefeated record at this point.
“Hopefully, we can keep that streak going. I feel optimistic for our results for the rest of the season,” she said.
