Stingers complete sweep on weekend

The Olds Stingers won a pair of games over the weekend, dumping the Lethbridge 'Cudas 12-8 and the Crowsnest Pass Ravens 14-11 in Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League tier three junior B action on June 8 and 9 respectively.

Both games were road contests for the Stingers.

Despite trailing 10-7 after 40 minutes of play against the Ravens, the Stingers exploded for seven goals in the third period to win the game.

Connor O'Neill, Shea Layden, Alex Gaudette, Kyle Bouma and Ryley Schmitt each scored twice for the Stingers during the game, while Tyler Campbell, Tanner Pochapsky, Graham Hammer and Lucas Howard each scored singles.

On June 9 against the 'Cudas, the Stingers led 4-3 after one period, with Howard scoring two goals, while Shea Layden and Schmitt got singles. In the second, the 'Cudas pulled even at 7-7, with Howard getting his third of the game for the visitors. Travis Layden and Alex Gaudette also scored for the Stingers in the middle frame.

The Stingers pulled away in the third period, outscoring the 'Cudas 5-1.

Among the five goals were two by Travis Layden, giving him three for the game.

The next game for the Stingers is against the Calgary Wranglers on June 15 at the Olds Sports Complex.
