Strong results for Olds throwing athletes at junior high level

Several local Olds throwing athletes took first place in competitions during the junior high zones and divisionals

OLDS — Several local throwing athletes took first place in competitions during the 2023 junior high zones and divisionals. 

Junior High zones took place in Calgary on May 30. The  divisionals were May 23 in Carstairs.  

Two athletes from École Olds High School, Jill Wright and Saffire Caron-Ladines, competed at the junior high level. 

Wright advanced to zones after finishing first in both shot put and discus.  

At zones, Wright did not make the final six in discus. But she threw the shot 8.40 metres (m) to finish fifth.  

Caron-Ladines advanced to zones in javelin after finishing first in divisionals. At zones she placed fourth, tossing the spear 22.22 m.  

Three athletes from École Deer Meadow School also did well. 

Nate Reist won the shot put event in zones with a throw of 11.10 m. He placed ninth in disc with a toss of 25.21 m. 

In divisionals, Reist finished first in both shot put and discus. 

Also at zones, Ryder Persson placed second in javelin with a throw of 40.77 m.  

Mukulu Shamvu finished fourth in discus with a toss of 21.73 m and seventh in javelin with a throw of 19.22 m.
