Strong year for Imagine Gymnastics Club

The Imagine Gymnastics Club had a strong year this year and is looking forward to a busy summer and an exciting session next year

The Imagine Gymnastics Club had a strong season this year.

OLDS — The Imagine Gymnastics Club has some big plans in the works.  

Its competitive team will be taking part in the Arizona Grande Competition in Phoenix, Ariz. Jan. 19-22, next year. 

After that, they’ll be gearing up for their annual Hay City Classic, which is scheduled for March 8-10, 2024. 

Head coach Michelle Jaffray says the club had a great season this year.  

“We had over 600 athletes through our doors in the 2022-2023 session and are looking forward to even more this coming session,” she wrote in an email. 

In the meantime, the club has a busy summer planned, hosting summer camps and recreational gymnastics classes as well. 

Recently, the club held its awards night.  

Ruby Ebelher was named Athlete of the Year and Kayman Waiting received the Coach of the Year award. 

The Most Improved Athlete of the Year award went to Dannilynn Richard.  

Everleigh Cameron received the Recreational Athlete of the Year award and the leadership award was presented to Hailey Sigurdson.   

The Gym Star award for recreational athlete six years of age and older went to Aubree Foley. The Shining Star award (Kinder Gymnastics Award for five and under) went to Freya Cormier. 

Terri and Gordy Kelemen were named the volunteers of the year. 

Several Imagine Gymnastics club athletes obtained top results this spring during the provincials in Calgary. 

Emma Krieger and Carmen Watson placed first on the beam (Level 6). Penny Symes placed third on beam (level 7). 

Raina Hays finished fourth overall (Level 6) and Harper Chernesky placed fourth on floor (level 7). 

In addition, many athletes turned in strong performances at the Alberta Xcel Championships, held earlier this spring in Lethbridge.  

Ruby Ebelher finished first on uneven bars, second on floor and second overall (gold level). 

Callie Kemmer placed second on floor, also gold level. 

Ava Israelson ended up third on the balance beam, gold level as well. 

Dannilynn Kelly Richards finished second on floor (silver level). 

Megan Grisack placed second on the balance beam and floor (platinum level). 

Kia Waiting finished first on Balance beam (diamond level). 

Haliey Sigurdson placed second on balance beam (diamond level) and Kennedy Jaffray ended up third on balance beam and Floor, also diamond level. 

The club’s 2023 edition of the Hay City Classic attracted more than 25 gymnastics clubs from B.C. and Alberta. 

In total, more than 700 athletes competed in that event, hosted at the Ralph Klein Centre.
