Several former Sundre junior curlers who now help to coach the new ranks of juniors recently won a silver medal at the Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (ASAA) High School Zones last month.
Team Fiselier, which includes Rachel Fiselier, Victoria Taylor, McKenzie McElhinney ó the former junior curlers ó as well as Cody Wilson, placed second following the Feb. 10-11 event held in Chestermere. They had previously defeated Carstairs at a county level competition to earn a berth to zones, said Bev Konschuh, who is active in Sundre's curling scene.
At zones, Team Fiselier defeated Chestermere 8-4 and then lost to Morrin 3-9. The rink came up against Cochrane in the semifinals and won 8-2. The squad then again went up against Morrin, which was the first ranked team in the bonspiel. Although Team Fiselier gave Morrin the best challenge they had met during the event, Morrin was crowned the gold medalists.
"This was a great achievement and a good way for Rachel Fiselier to end her high school curling career," Konschuh said.
"The other three girls are in Grade 11 and have one more year to improve on this year's accomplishments."
