OLDS — There are now only three games left in the Olds Grizzlys’ regular season, before they enter the play-in round.
The way it’s looking right now, the Grizzlys will face off against the Canmore Eagles in that play-in round. That could be challenging for the Black and Gold. They lost two games against Canmore recently.
The Grizzlys host Drayton Valley Wednesday, Feb. 28. Game time is 7 p.m.
Then it’s a home-and-home series versus the Calgary Canucks.
The first game in that series will be played Friday, March 1 in the Olds Sportsplex at 7 p.m. The second game – and the Grizzlys’ final game of the regular season – will be held Saturday, March 2 in Calgary.
As noted above, the team’s most recent home and home series Feb. 19 and 23 versus Canmore didn’t go the Grizzlys’ way.
They were beaten 6-4 in Canmore on Feb. 19, then shut out 3-0 at home on Friday, Feb. 23.
Grizzlys goal scorers in the Feb. 19 game were Greye Rampton, Junshi Hideshima, Gaige Giblin and Brodie Hankel with his first goal of the season.
Quinn Abbott picked up two assists. Others getting assists were Tait Humphries, Giblin, Ryder Many Grey Horses, Cade Moxham and Devun Olfert.
Aidan Comeau went the distance in net, stopping 36 of 42 shots fired his way. The Grizzlys fired 26 shots at Eagles goaltender Matthew Kieper.
The Grizzlys were two for six on the power play. The Eagles were one for six.
In Friday’s contest, Comeau stopped 35 of 38 shots on goal. The Grizzlys only managed 14 against Eagles goaltender Hudson Sedo.
The Grizzlys were unable to score on four powerplay opportunities. The Eagles went one for two with the man advantage.
