OLDS — Local throwing coach Rachel Andres is gearing up once again for a shot at making the Canadian Olympic team.

The 2024 Summer Olympics are slated to be held July 26 - Aug. 11 next year in Paris, France.

In 2021, Andres made a Herculean effort to make the Canadian Olympic team for the Olympics in Tokyo that year, but fell just short.

“Any meet that has separate masters and senior competitions I am using as an opportunity to work on building my world ranking up for my Olympic bid next year,” Andres wrote in an email to the Albertan

As part of that effort, Andres threw discus twice during the CALTAF Classic track meet, held June 16-18 in Calgary. She competed in the senior and masters divisions.

She won both with a throw of 52.01 metres (m) in the senior division and 52.31 m in the masters division.

As a result, she wrote, “this weekend established some consistency with my distances.”
