OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys head back on the road tomorrow for a date with the Dragons in Drumheller.
It won’t be easy; not only because the matchup is a road game, but also because as of Monday, Feb. 7, the Dragons stood 47 points above the Grizzlys in the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Viterra South Division with a 29-14-8 record.
That put them in second place in the eight-team division, with 66 points in 51 games.
The Grizzlys were in last place in the division with a 7-38-5 record for 19 points in 50 games.
The Grizzlys showed some real grit and came close to winning a couple of games over the weekend.
On Friday, Feb. 4 in Blackfalds, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the second period.
But the Grizzlys didn’t collapse.
Instead, they stormed back to close the gap to 6-5 by the end of the second period.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs scored two more goals in the third period, while the Grizzlys could only add one more, so Bulldogs won 8-6.
Shots on goal were 33-32 for the Grizzlys.
A similar situation occurred the next night at the Sportsplex in Olds.
The Lloydminsters Bobcats led 4-1 after two periods. The Grizzlys made a major pushback in the third, scoring two goals, including one on the powerplay. However, the Bobcats still skated away with a 4-3 win.
Shots on goal were 47-38 for the Bobcats.
