The Olds Grizzlys will be the subject of a town hall meeting on April 29 organized by the Olds Sportsmens Recreation Association.
The meeting will take place at the Olds Legion at 7 p.m.
The association operates the Grizzlys and will be showing the public its business plan that will hopefully keep the hockey team viable.
They will also discuss the team’s budget, past practices and changes to the business plan.
Public input will be sought on what the group can improve upon in order to keep the Grizzlys in Olds.
"We want to get as many people that are interested in giving their opinions to show up and help us figure out what we need to do to move forward," said Rebecca Spiers, the treasurer of the association.
The Grizzlys currently carry more than $100,000 of debt and the team’s chase for 500 season ticketholders has come up short.
Spiers said she believes enough fan support for the team exists in Olds. The goal of the meeting is to find out how it can be mobilized.
"And that’s why we came up with this idea to find out why are people not buying season tickets. Because we believe that we’ve got enough supporters to fill that 500, which is why we put that number out there to start with," she said. "The public must have a reason why, so maybe we need to have a meeting to find out, so people can voice their opinions as to why they’re not buying the tickets."
