Twenty-seven Olds College Broncos receive national scholar awards

OLDS — Twenty-seven Olds College of Agriculture & Technology athletes have received the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Scholar Award. 

That award, presented this year for the 2021-22 season, goes to student-athletes who have achieved honours standing in academics for the season while competing in intercollegiate athletics. 

Among the 2021-22 class, women’s basketball player Haylee-Jo Heggie is now a five-time CCAA national scholar.

Two of those awards came from her time at Lethbridge College before she transferred to the Broncos ahead of the 2019-20 season.  

Having lost a season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Raymond, Alta. native now has a shot at a rare sixth National Scholar Award as she completes her athletic eligibility this season. 

Other Broncos recipients who can now count themselves as multi-time CCAA National Scholars, include women’s soccer players Felicia Rodney (three times, now transferred to Keyano College) and MJ Vergara (twice), women’s volleyball player Tabitha Martin (three times), men’s volleyball players Braden Bates and Jesse Stoddart (twice each), women’s basketball player Amelia Furst (twice), men’s basketball player Erik Wopnford (twice), and badminton phenom Priyanna Ramdhani (three times).
