OLDS — Even though the Olds College Broncos' season ended in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) women's basketball championship play-in game, a pair of Broncos earned individual hardware for their performances this season.
After going wire-to-wire in leading the ACAC in scoring, Broncos workhorse Blu Rose earned a place on the ACAC South's first all-conference team.
The Ontario, Calif. product, a forward, led the conference with 18.4 points per game, while also finishing in the top 10 in rebounds per game (8.4) and adding 2.5 steals per game while averaging 37.6 minutes a night, which included seven double-doubles.
Joining Rose as an all-conference selection from the ACAC South is Rio Yamazaki, who was selected to the South's second team.
The Tokyo product, a guard led the ACAC in assists per game with 5.7, outpacing the next-highest assist-getter by over an assist per game.
Yamazaki also finished tied for seventh in the ACAC with 15.6 points per game, while her 3.2 steals per night placed her in a tie for fourth among all ACAC players.
Both players were recognized at the banquet for the ACAC Women's Basketball Championship, hosted by Lethbridge College. Games began on Thursday.
The Broncos were eliminated from contention with a 68-58 loss to the Briercrest Clippers in Caronport on Saturday.
