U-16 boys do well at provincials

It was a very excited weekend for Sundre U16 boys in Saint Paul playing Provincial games.

It was a very excited weekend for Sundre U16 boys in Saint Paul playing Provincial games.

The team is Joris vandenHadelkamp, Drew Mailkem, Mike Newton, Carson Bartholow, Tristan Jochems, Sam Alliban, Lucas Dyer, David Newton, Matt Alliban, James Dyer, Curtis Worobetz, Jitse vandenHadelkamp, Jelmer vandenHadelkamp, Cory Nault, Flurin Obrist, Jesse Drake, Tyler Kazcinski, and Paul Christensen.

First game was on Friday July 8 at 7.30 against Lakeland 3, Sundre played their "game" and tied at 0-0.

The second game was on Saturday at 11.00 a.m. The team had to face a very strong team from Whitecourt team, which actually ended up in the Gold Game. Sundre held the line but lost this game 3-1. For Whitecourt, with 1 game tie and 1 game lost, they ended second in their group.

Last game was on Sunday at 1.00 pm facing Lakeland 2 (Lac La Biche).

Sundre did very well, missed some good chances. Two goals were scored by David Newton and the game was tied at 2 – 2 and Sundre had to line up 5 players for the penalty shoot out.

Joris vandenHadelkamp, our goalie, kept his head cool and with two marvelous saves.

Sundre players Tristan Jochems and Flurin Obrist scored while Lac La Biche could not get through our goalkeeper.

Sundre U16 boys ended up 7th from 12 teams in Alberta.

Coach Patrick vandenHadelkamp is very proud that his team made it this far and he commended all his players for their excellent play on this high level.
