U11 Olds Grizzlys snag top three finishes in host tournament

Grizzlys teams finished third in the A division and second in each of the B and C divisions of the U11 hockey tournament

OLDS — Grizzlys teams finished in the top three in three divisions of the Grizzlys invitational U11 tournament, held Feb. 14-16 at the Olds Sportsplex.

In the A division, the Olds Grizzlys finished third, beating the NW Warriors.

That third-place finish came after what Alex Hogarth, a tournament coordinator, described as “some tough losses” to the Drumheller Raptors who swept the tournament, and the Stettler Storm.

The Grizzlys’ entry in the B division placed second after “a tight, back and forth, one-goal game against the West 39 Bucks,” Hogarth wrote in an email.

The Devon Drillers won the bronze medal game in that division, versus the Trails West Wolves.

The C division Grizzlys also came in second against Airdrie.

Sylvan Lake won the bronze medal game against Devon.

During the tournament a food drive was held.

“We totalled 861 pounds of food with a focus on school lunch items,” Hogarth wrote.

The NW Warriors received a pizza party for obtaining the most donations.
