Volunteers needed for triathlon

Coordinators with the Innisfail Triathlon said so far 73 athletes and four teams have registered since registration began in June.

Gayle Chapiel, volunteer coordinator for the Innisfail Triathlon Committee is still hopeful more local athletes will sign up for the triathlon sprint Sept. 8. “There's still some time to train,” she said, adding at this point people who are new to the triathlon could still join in teams.

The triathlon sprint covers a 750-m swim, 20-km bike ride and five-km run that can be done alone or with a team. The tri-it event is also available for newcomers or children with a 300-m swim, five-km bike and two-km run.

Chapiel said the committee is also looking for volunteers at the pool as well as out on the cycle and run route.

“People bring their support team with them. And instead of having them standing in a parking lot for a few hours they can go out on the course and be there to cheer them on while also giving them something to do,” she explained.
