OLDS — Want to get on the ice at the Olds Sportsplex on a weekend next season?
There’s a time slot that’s wide open, community services director Doug Wagstaff says.
But it may not be your first choice: 6:30 a.m. on weekends.
“We’re not getting any rentals (for that time slot). It's zero per cent in the first three months before 8 o’clock in the morning,” Wagstaff said during a presentation to town council.
He said another underutilized time slot is late at night on Sundays.
Utilization late at night on weekends has only been four per cent, according to statistics Wagstaff presented.
From September through March, ice utilization at the facility was up in all other categories.
The most popular ice time was Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Usage in that time slot this season was 87 per cent, well up from 66 per cent last season.
The least popular time slot – apart from the ones Wagstaff quoted earlier – was Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Usage in that time period was 18 per cent this past season, more than double last year’s figure of seven per cent.
