Wide age range in winning open bonspiel team

It was the Olds club's first open bonspiel since just before COVID restrictions came down in March of 2020

OLDS — The Winter rink, featuring three generations of curlers, won the Olds Curling Club’s open bonspiel, held March 11-13.

It was the first open bonspiel staged by the club since just before the first set of COVID-19 restrictions shut things down in March, 2020.

Members of A event-winning Winter team were skip Brian Winter, Aaron Winter, Tyson Winter and Adam Winter.

Open bonspiel coordinator Tammy Schwass says members of that team ranged in age from seven to “roughly age 60.”

The Medd team won the B event. Members of that team were skip Sharon Medd, Shelby Medd, Nic Gee and Scott Medd.

The Fazakas team took the C event. Members of that team were Troy Byrt (sparing for Koby Chant), Scott Chant, Leighton Fazakas and Cam Fazakas.

“We had 20 teams and a great time was had by all,” Schwass wrote in an email.

Next up for the club, Schwass says, are league playoffs and a final fun night, with live music featuring Dustin Farr, which will occur on March 25. Those wishing to register are urged to do so at the club or online.
