MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Ratepayers in Mountain View County with outstanding overdue or unpaid property taxes face a three per cent penalty Thursday.
Property taxes for 2024 were due on Sept. 16. Penalties for unpaid taxes started on Sept. 17 at four per cent. The second penalty applied Jan. 16.
Unpaid and overdue taxes will face a third penalty deadline on March 16 when another three per cent applies, and a fourth deadline on June 16 when an additional two per cent penalty applies.
Every May, Mountain View County residents receive a combined assessment and tax notice indicating the value of property they own and the amount of taxes to be paid on that property.
Although taxes cannot be appealed, individual assessment values can be appealed.
Jeff Holmes, the county’s chief administrative officer, said information on the amount of unpaid taxes and the number of outstanding accounts in the county is not immediately available.
“The Rural Municipalities of Alberta has sent out their annual survey asking for municipal data so we will have it pulled together in the next couple of weeks,” Holmes told the Albertan Thursday.
