MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – County council has approved $243,413 in funding from the Cremona Intermunicipal Collaboration (ICC) reserve fund for a capital project in the village.
The move came by way of motion at the Oct. 14 county council meeting.
The village formally requested the funds be released for the Centre Avenue project, which will see infrastructure improvements outside the arena, curling rink, and community hall.
The project will also include the installation of a fire hydrant and two isolation shut-off valves, paving and the installation of sidewalk, curb and gutter on the east side of Centre Avenue, and the installation of parking on the west side of Centre Avenue with access pathway to connection to the hall, arena and ball park.
In a letter sent to MVC council, Village of Cremona Mayor Tim Hagen said the project will “greatly benefit both Cremona and county residents that utilize the facilities.”
“This project will dedicate ICC funds towards improvements that the societies (involved with the facilities) would likely not be in a financial position to do themselves and will greatly add to the usability and functionality of the sites," he said.
Cremona has committed 100 per cent of its municipal stimulus program funding to the project for 2021, council heard.
“If funds allow, the village would work with local societies to pave the parking lot and complete landscaping,” county administration said in a briefing note to council.
