MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – Mountain View Seniors’ Housing (MVSH) facilities are now permitting only essential visitors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials said.

MVSH owns and operates seniors lodges in Olds, Didsbury, Carstairs and Sundre. Officials say essential visitors are defined as “relatives who have a loved one who is critically ill.”

County reeve Bruce Beattie is asking everyone to strictly abide by the new condition.

“We want to encourage people to realize this is a serious issue, especially for those people at high risk,” said Beattie, who is also the chairman of MVSH.

“I know people want to visit family members and friends but these are the people who are most at risk. We’ve got signs up and we are trying to monitor the entrances and limit access as best we can.

“We hope people will respect that and appreciate what we are trying to do to protect our residents.”

In a posting on its website MVSH said: “We are requiring that only essential visitors be permitted into our residences. Essential visitors must comply with active screening measures, and those who fail screening or who refuse screening will not be permitted to enter. No other visitor will be permitted to enter our residences.”

Beattie is currently in 14-day self-isolation at his residence following a recent trip to Mexico. He arrived home on March 10.
