MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The fire ban enacted in Mountain View County on May 5 has been lifted effective immediately, officials said Tuesday, May 23.

“Thanks to the recent substantial moisture, local resources returning from provincial deployments and a reduction in the fire risk to the county, the fire ban has been lifted,” said Jeff Holmes, the county's chief administrative officer.

The public should still exercise extreme caution while burning and use precautionary measures such as screens and spark arrestors on burning barrels, cultivated areas surround controlled burns and have a supply of water readily available at all times, he said.

The existing fire bans in the provincial Forest Protection Area remains in place, with details of those bans and restrictions available at albertafirebans.ca.
