MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - There are two wildfires currently burning west of Sundre, both classified as out of control, officials said Sunday.
One blaze, called Wildfire RWF070, is located next to Highway 40 and 50 kilometres west of Sundre.
“The wildfire is 155 hectares or 383 acres in size and there are 20 firefighters assigned to it,” Alberta Agriculture and Forestry spokesperson Lindsay Gunderson told The Albertan.
The other blaze, called Wildfire RWF071, is located two kilometres west of Highway 40, also known as the Trunk Road, and 52 kilometres southwest of Sundre.
That fire covers 66 hectares or 163 acres and there was one firefighter assigned to it, she said.
“Wildfire resources are allocated according to priorities including risk to human life, communities and infrastructure. Those wildfires with few or no resources assigned are regularly monitored for activity or signs of growth,” she said.
The cause of both fires remain under investigation, she said.
