MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County's council has approved 2025 grant funding for community groups and organizations, including more than $100,000 for rural community halls.
The approvals came by way of motions at a special council meeting held in the county office on April. 2.
Council approved $76,379 under the rural community organization grant, which provides funds to operate programs and/or facilities that promote recreation, culture or agriculture in rural Mountain View County. The grant may be used towards operating or facility upgrade costs and expenditures.
Grants approved under the program include $8,000 for the Didsbury Agricultural Society, $8,000 for the Foothills Curling Club, $8,000 for the Olds Regional Exhibition and $6,500 for Mountain View BearSmart Society.
Council approved $103,806 under the rural community hall grant, which provides funds for operating and facility upgrades.
Grants approved under the program including $8,000 for the Bearberry Wapitana Society, $8,000 for Eagle Hill Memorial Community Hall, $8,000 for Hainstock Community Association, $8,000 for Water Valley Community Association and $8,000 for Westerdale Community Association.
Council approved $4,549 under the crime prevention initiative grant, which aims to increase the safety of, or reduce the impact of criminal activity on residents and/or businesses in the county.
Groups receiving funds are Bearberry Wapitana ($750), Big Prairie Community Association ($440), Hainstock Community Association ($1,124), and Melvin Hall ($2,234).
Council approved $15,341 under the public transportation and operating assistance grant, which has been established to improve mobility options for those who do not have access to their own transportation, enhance the capacity to better meet the local community transportation demand, and contribute to organizations that support local communities and regions for viable options of transportation services.
Groups receiving funds are Aspen Ranch ($1,501), Cremona FCSS/Village of Cremona ($2,500), Cremona School Enhancement Society ($3,000), Didsbury Lions Club ($3,000), Special Olympics Olds & District ($1,940), Sundre Daycare Centre ($3,000), and Town of Didsbury Seniors Supports ($400).
Council approved $6,881 under the Health Funding Program, which supports innovative solutions that support health care service delivery in the county.
Groups receiving funds are Bearberry Wapitana Society ($400), Village of Cremona/Cremona FCSS ($1,710), Olds and Area Pregnancy Support Centre ($1,992) and Sundre Volunteer Search & Rescue ($2,779).
