MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – Mountain View County’s municipal planning commission (MPC) has approved development permits for two proposed industrial storage and warehousing – oilfield equipment facilities in an existing business park south of Carstairs.

The move came by way of motion during a recent commission meeting, held by teleconference.

The adjacent properties involved are located in the Wessex rural neighbourhood between Highway 2 and Highway 2A, about two kilometres north of Rge. Rd. 290, at S 23-29-1-5 Lot 14 and Lot 15.

The applicant, Inclusive Energy, would provide storage of storage tanks, separator vessels, rig matting, line heaters and office trailers at the site, administration said in a briefing note to the commission.

“The majority of the storage tanks are new, however, some may be reconditioned. These are cleaned prior to storage, therefore there shall be no potential for onsite contamination from the tanks being stored on the property,” the note stated.

“The amount of each type of equipment stored will be variable due to market demand. The site will be secured with chain link fence and a locked gate for entry.”
Lot 15 also includes outdoor recreational vehicle storage.

The permits come with a number of conditions, including a landscaping plan that must include “a mix of trees, shrubs and grasses as identified in the applicant’s landscaping plan and shall be maintained to the satisfaction of the county.”

All seven commission members voted in favour of approval of the development permits.

The municipal planning commission is the county’s approving authority.
