MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - The Kiwanis Club of Calgary has been awarded tens of thousands of dollars through the province’s Community Initiatives Program to operate its newly relocated camp in Mountain View County.

Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir announced Thursday that the group is one of 260 non-profit organizations to share in $9.9 million provided through the program.

“Alberta is home to some of the strongest volunteering in Canada, and I’m proud Alberta’s government can be your partner in building stronger communities. Thank you to all of the community and non-profit groups across the province whose work helps empower Albertans, connects them with their neighbours and provides spaces for learning and community,” Fir said when announcing the funding.

The grants support non-profit organizations to help Albertans access diverse social, cultural and recreational opportunities in their communities.

The Kiwanis Club of Calgary received a $75,321 Community Initiatives Program operating grant.

The grant provides funding of ongoing core operations for non-profit organizations that address social issues.

The club is in the process of relocating its Kamp Kiwanis to a new site it purchased in 2022 about 15 minutes northwest of Cremona in Mountain View County. It plans to build facilities at the new location.

Kamp Kiwanis is an overnight summer camp for underprivileged or disadvantaged children and an outdoor school running overnight and day trip programs in spring and fall.
