MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has approved a total of $49,265.83 for four community groups under the municipality’s health funding policy.
The move came by way of motion during the April 13 Mountain View County council meeting, held in person and on Zoom.
Groups receiving funding are Hope 4 MVC Kids Society, Olds & District Hospice Society, Sundre Health Professional Attraction & Retention, and the Village of Cremona.
“This funding is directed to support health programs and services for enhanced and sustainable health care,” said Jeff Holmes, the county's chief administrative officer. “Any allocated funding for health-care initiatives must have a direct benefit to residents of Mountain View County.
“Projects and programs shall support health initiatives in a capacity such as promotion, prevention, treatment, continuing care, and/or rehabilitation. Requests for operations funding shall be prioritized higher than requests for funding of capital items.”
The Hope 4 MVC Kids Society will receive $15,765.83 in 2002, compared with $16,950 in 2021 and $16,940 in 2020.
This year’s funding will go to support a number of programs, including assisting with costs incurred if a local child is hospitalized, assisting local children in need of adaptive equipment for home or school, assisting a local child with home adaptations due to illness or disability, and assisting a local child who requires therapy, council heard.
The Olds & District Hospice Society will receive $20,000 in 2022, compared with $15,000 inn 2021 and $15,000 in 2020.
This year’s funding will be used toward providing support for improved hospice palliative care within the county, and specifically to offset monthly lease expenses on two hospice suites in the assisted living facility.
The Sundre Health Professions Attraction and Retention Committee will receive $10,000 in 2022, the same as in 2021 and 2020.
This year, the funds will be used for health improvement activities in the community, including retention and recruitment of health professionals, and to support the new training facility.
The Village of Cremona will receive $3,500 in 2022, up from $1,225 in 2020. This year’s funds will be used to help the community host a Red Cross First Aid Course for area residents.
During the April 13 council meeting, councillors reviewed the 2022 cemetery grant funding report.
In all, 11 cemeteries in the county received $1,000 each to help with general operational expenses such as grass cutting and general maintenance.
The approved funding may also be used for fixed outdoor assets such as benches, signage, mapping, garbage and recycling collection, and storage.
