MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Mountain View County has enacted a full fire ban across the municipality due to current and forecasted conditions, officials said Friday.
The ban is in effect immediately on May 5 and will remain in place until further notice.
Under the prohibition, all outdoor fires presently burning must be extinguished and the lighting of any outdoor fires is not permitted, including in outdoor firepits
The only exception to the ban are internal household fireplaces, barbeques, and Alberta Energy Regulator flaring.
No new fire or fireworks permits will be issued until the ban is lifted, and all current fire permits and fireworks permits are cancelled effectively immediately.
Chris Atchison, director of legislative and community services, says the ban applies only to the county and not to towns or villages in the geographical boundary of the county.
"We don't have jurisdiction over their municipalities," Atchison told the Albertan. "They would need to enact their own fire bans."
The county enacted fire restrictions earlier this week on May 1 which cancelled all fire and firework permits.
