MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - County council has reviewed community grant application approvals totalling $224,386, including about $100,000 for rural community halls.
“The grant review committee did a great job,” said reeve Angela Aalbers. “This is money well spent.”
Council received information about the grant approvals made earlier by the governance review committee under Procedure #8015-01 during the March 29 council meeting.
The multi-stakeholder committee approved $45,000 transportation grants.
“Mountain View County recognized the importance of providing transportation grant funding to organizations who provide transportation benefits to those with no transportation options, enabling them to live independently and participate in their community,” chief operating officer Jeff Holmes said in a briefing note to council.
“This grant is established to improve mobility options for those who do not have access to their own transportation, enhance the capacity to better meet the local community transportation demand, and contribute to organizations that support local community and regions for viable options of transportation service.”
The committee also approved $16,150 for local cemetery groups to enhance their ability to operate and deliver services to the community. Up to $1,500 may be approved for each rural registered cemetery organization each year.
The committee approved $62,250 in rural community grants, which can be used towards operating or facility upgrade costs and expenditures required for recreational, cultural and agricultural programs and facilities.
The committee approved $100,986 for rural community halls to be used towards operating and facility upgrade costs.
Council carried a motion accepting the update on the community grant applications as information.
Council passed a second related motion approving an over-allocation of the rural community hall grant totalling $10,986.
Coun. Al Miller did not attend the March 29 council meeting, held in person and online.
