MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Tiffany Nixon says if elected in the upcoming byelection in Division 4 she will work diligently with her fellow councillors to promote and support her division and the county as a whole.
“I’m willing to work hard for the residents of Division 4 and I think that I could bring great value to the council,” she told the Albertan.
Nixon, who lives on an acreage in the Bergen area and works in Sundre, is seeking public office for the first time.
The Oct. 16 byelection is being held to replace former councillor Gord Krebs, who resigned as the division councillor in August. Advance polls will take place on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10.
Nixon says there are many issues and projects she would like to address should she be elected.
“Some of the focus that I’ve come across would be sustainable development, protecting agricultural land, property taxes, community support, infrastructure improvement and maintenance,” she said.
“And, of course, there are a bunch of other things that are the focus for the folks in the community.”
Asked if there is anything in particular that she would like to see county council work on for the remainder of the current term, which ends in October 2025, she said, “I want to promote common sense and balance and bring a strong voice for the people of Division 4.”
Nixon’s husband Jason Nixon is the Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre UCP MLA.
Asked if she is concerned about possible conflicts of interest should she be elect county councillor, she said no.
“I don’t foresee that as being an issue,” she said. “There is a quite a big separation between municipal items and actions and provincial-wide ones, so I think the separation is already built in there. I don’t see that being a problem.”
Nixon says she is not receiving any support or backing from the United Conservative Party of Alberta in her election bid.
Division 4 serves Elkton/Rugby, Westcott, parts of Fallentimber, Bergen, Harmattan and Westerdale.
