Parkland Regional Library System circulation tops 1.3 million

For 2025, Parkland increased the requisition by sixty-three cents to municipalities, bringing it to $9.81 per capita.

MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Parkland Regional Library System (PRLS) officials updated Mountain View County council recently on the organization’s activities in 2024, including the most up-to-date circulation statistics.

The PRLS is a municipal cooperative supporting 49 public libraries across central Alberta and serving over 200,000 residents in 64 municipalities, including in the Mountain View County area. 

The organization provides professional, technical, and materials support to member libraries, as well as providing materials or services for participating libraries.

In 2024, there were 664,784 items in the Parkland system catalogue.

Total physical circulation throughout the system was 1,310,828 last year.

Wi-Fi system sessions topped 1.2 million in 2024, along with 330,448 website and online catalogue visits.

PRLS deliveries to member libraries topped 922,000 in 2024.

The system’s current shared regional specialty collection includes 10,566 eBooks, 6,585 eAudiobooks, 9,185 large print books, 3,321 audiobooks, 123 programming kits, and 5,720 eMagazines.

Approximately 42 per cent of the PRLS operating budget currently comes from Government of Alberta grants.

For 2025, Parkland increased the requisition to municipalities by $0.63, bringing it to $9.81 per capita.

Total estimated requisition for 2025 equals $2,178,075.
