MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - A family's main house, several outbuildings, a large RV, another trailer and dozens of large trees south of Sundre were destroyed in a storm that produced a tornado on July 7.
John and Judy Bargholz weren't at their rural home on Thursday afternoon when a thunderstorm swept through the area.
At 2:49 p.m. on July 7, Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the area south of Sundre.
“This thunderstorm has produced a tornado,” the warning stated. “This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.”
When the couple arrived home after volunteering in Sundre during the day, they found debris scattered across the property.
It is not immediately known whether it was a tornado or severe winds that hit the properties along the Bergen Road south of Sundre in Mountain View County, including the Bargholz property.
