MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – The county's municipal planning commission has approved a development permit for proposed change of use for an existing riding arena in the Lonepine rural neighbourhood.

The move came by way of motion at a recent regularly scheduled meeting.

The arena is located at the intersection of Twp. Rd. 322 and Rge. Rd. 284.

The project would see the private arena become public.

“The business details indicated the arena use will include both not-for-profit equestrian sport (Meadow Creek Vaulting Club), as well as recreational and competitive lesson programs (Country Creek Performance Training), the occasional day clinics and camps,” administration said in a briefing note to the commission.

The circulation to adjacent landowners did not result in any concerns or comments received, therefore is perceived to have no impact on the enjoyment of adjacent properties, members heard.

The approval also includes an addition to existing horse stabling area.

The approval comes with a number of conditions, including that all events outside the permitted uses contained in the development permits shall require the issuance of a public event permit, and that any future expansion and/or intensification of the arena will require the issuance of a new development permit.

A building permit for the change of land use to a public riding arena must also be obtained.
