MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY — A Red Deer County man facing 18 charges in the wake of a 2023 drug and weapons bust is going to trial next May.

Michael Ryan Goodine’s case is scheduled to be heard in the Calgary Court of Justice May 21, 2025.

A stay of proceedings has been entered for two other people – Alyssa Karina Friendship and Jayden Luc Desaulniers -- who faced charges in connection with that same matter.

A stay of proceedings occurs when a trial is stopped temporarily by the Crown or ended by a judge.

If the Crown issues a prosecutorial stay, the trial has to resume within a year or the proceedings are considered to have never begun.

The case dates back to July 28, 2023.

On that date, RCMP executed a controlled drugs and substances search warrant at a property on Highway 791 in Mountain View County and seized several weapons and substances believed to be drugs.

Goodine faced 18 charges but could not be found, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was charged with:

• three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine;

• possession of stolen property under $5,000;

• five counts of failing to comply with a release order; and

• nine weapons and firearms-related offences.

Friendship and Desaulniers, also of Red Deer County, were arrested and faced the following charges:

• three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine; and

• possession of stolen property Under $5,000.

The stay on their matters was issued in December 2023.
