WATER VALLEY - The 2023 Water Valley Stampede Rodeo was a hit with spectators and competitors alike, with two local athletes winning events, say officials.

There were about 150 competitors this year, with about 2,000 guests attending over two days. It was the rodeo’s 69th year.

The FCA, Chinook Rodeo Association and Lakeland Rodeo Association-sanctioned event featured competitors from across the province and beyond.

“It was an excellent rodeo again this year, with lots of good competition,” said Water Valley rodeo secretary Hilary Hahn.

Sundre’s Briley Scott won the saddle bronc event with a 68 score on Home Boy.

Scott also won the novice horse riding event with a 68 score on Scaredy Squirrel.

Carstairs’ Paige Aarsby won the junior breakaway roping event with a 5.36 time.

Other winners of the June 3-4 rodeo included the following:

• Ranch bronc riding - Steve Hochsein of Pincher Creek with a 76.5 score.

• Tie down roping - Holton Harms of Cochrane with a 18.5 second run.

• Team roping - Wace Pallesen and Clay Allen of Wheatland County with a 12.1 second time

• Wild horse race - Zac Good Eagle team of Siksika with a 2:03 time.

• Wild cow milking - Nick Bentley and Chase Soderberg of Longview. 

• Junior bull riding - Marshall Williams, Stavely, on Gravity with a 70 score.

• Bull riding - Ryley Indenbosch of Coaldale, on Stingray with a 56 score.

• Ladies breakaway roping - Madison Wright of Lethbridge with a 3.98.

• Ladies barrel racing - Bobbie Goodwin of Cranbrook with a 16.466 second time.

• Junior barrel racing - Lena Kronschnabl of Thorsby with a 16.961 second time.

• Pee wee barrel racing - Brooke Anderson of Okotoks with a 16.79 time.

• Steer wrestling - Jace McPeak Young of Turin with a 6.7 second time.

• Steer riding - Wyatt Wiancko of Castor with a 71 score.
